About John McHugh

John McHugh is a guitarist, singer/songwriter, muilti-instrumentalist and is one of the few musicians you will hear that also designs and builds his own acoustic instruments. John is 48 and has been singing and playing guitar for 40 years of his life.

Having the unique talent to customize his acoustic arsenal, John is composing and performing traditional and progressive acoustic rock and traditional folk music. His current mainstays are a 14 string harp guitar, and a 14 string double neck guitar.

From his raw beginnings covering The Beatles, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan and Leo Kottke, McHugh was mostly a self-taught guitarist, born with a natural ear for music. This carried his music for many years, up until 1978 when he became interested in building musical instruments. His career as a builder took him away from performing, as most of his creative energy went into the guitars he was creating.

Fast-forward to 1998 when John decided to dig in and let the creative juices flow out of the guitars instead, he has 2 CD's to his credit. His first studio effort yeilded "It's About Time", a mostly instrumental collection of his 6 and 12 string works.

2002 saw the release of "Songs in The Key of Wood", with more vocal selections and an increaced energy in the instrumental songs as well.

With a variety of cover tunes spanning 40 years, the ability to manipulate his own guitars, and a 2, 3, or 4 piece band joining him, he is able to offer live entertainment to fit any venue or gig.
